Review of workplace risk management measures for nanomaterials to mitigate inhalation and dermal exposure

Date: 13/8/2018

A recent review published in Annals of Work Exposure and Health evaluated the effectiveness of risk management measures (RMM) for nanomaterials in the workplace.

The review looked at 41 studies of three general types of RMM including engineering controls, respiratory equipment and skin protective equipment. The results concluded that the collected risk management measure efficacy data was limited for nanomaterials and was often inconclusive to propose effectiveness values. It also highlighted current knowledge gaps related to RMM effectiveness for nanomaterials including ventilated walk-in enclosures and clean rooms.

The work was funded by the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007–2013) as part of GUIDEnano and SUN projects.
