INRS publishes summary of foresight study on manufactured nanomaterials

Date: 02/6/2017

In 2014, INRS (in collaboration with several partners) conducted a foresight study which focused on the development of nanomaterials by 2030 and the consequences on safety and health in small businesses in France. An English summary of the study results has now been published.

Four scenarios were envisioned in the foresight study:

  • Strong and successful commitment from both State and Industry: massive development
  • Informed rejection by society: development in a few strategic sectors
  • Industry in the driving seat: development in growth sectors only
  • Sustained regional will: development based on local skills

For each scenario, the impacts on occupational health and safety in France in small enterprises and the consequences on prevention needs are elaborated in detail.
