EC publishes catalogue of nanomaterials used in cosmetic products placed in the EU market
On the 15th of June, 2017, the European Commission (EC) published a catalogue of nanomaterials used in cosmetic products on the European Union market. Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 requires the EC to publish a catalogue of all nanomaterials used in cosmetics placed on the market, indicating the categories and foreseeable exposure conditions.
The catalogue was due by January 2014, but as reported in Bergeson & Campbell, P.C.’s blog item on 13th February 2017, the EC postponed publication of the catalogue several times. The EC notes that the catalogue “has an informative value only and is not in any case a list of authorised nanomaterials.” The EC is required to update the catalogue regularly and make it publicly available.
