FOEN 2013: Guidelines on the precautionary matrix for synthetic nanomaterials

FOEN_200-150The Swiss Federal Council (FOEN) has published guidelines in relation to the Precautionary Matrix for Synthetic Nanomaterials, developed in Switzerland to empower industry, commerce and trade to take greater responsibility and to apply a precautionary approach in a targeted and cost-effective matter.

The precautionary matrix is a method for assessing the nano-specific health and environmental risks of nanoproducts.  It enables the structured assessment of the “nano-specific need for precautions” when handling synthetic nanomaterials.

The precautionary matrix is designed to help industry and trade comply with their due diligence and their duty to exercise self-control opposite employees, consumers and the environment.
