NanEx project website launched
08/02/2010

The NanEx consortium, coordinated by the Institute of Occupational Medicine in Edinburgh along with 10 other organisations from across Europe, this month launched its project website - http://nanex-project.eu/ - which aims to provide up to date information on the project and a base for eventual report dissemination.

NanEx is a 12-month project funded by the European Commission under the FP7 programme (247794) that aims to collate currently available information on occupational and consumer exposure and environmental release and available risk management measures.

NanEx will focus on three types of MNMs: (1) carbon nanotubes; (2) mass-produced nanomaterials (TiO2); and (3) specialised nanomaterials (nano-silver). Information from the peer-reviewed and grey literature will be reviewed and a small number of case illustrations will be carried out, followed by a gap analysis and definition of future research needs. The exposure information will be entered into an exposure scenario catalogue database.

During the course of NanEx, the consortium will organise a number of workshops, the first to be held on the 8th March 2010 at the Museé Olympique in Lausanne to discuss the data requirements for describing the exposure scenarios.  Towards the end of the project, a workshop will be organised to present the gap analyses and define future research needs.  Finally, results of NanEx will be presented at the Nanosafe conference in Grenoble, France in November 2010.
