SAFENANO readies itself for official re-launch
Created by snadmin on 07/07/2011 12:28:25

SAFENANO - Europe’s Centre of excellence on nanotechnology hazard and risk - re-launches with a new look, additional features and improved functionality.

Following 10 months of development, SAFENANO has this week re-launched its website, www.safenano.org to bring its users a faster and easier to use online service which provides a greater range of up to date information on nanotechnology hazard and risk issues. SAFENANO will undergo an official launch next week.

SAFENANO is now Europe's Centre of Excellence for nanotechnology hazard and risk, a transition which we have made based on our ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality information and consultancy services available to partners in a wide range of countries.

We have given the site a new look, facilitating responsible development of safe nanotechnologies using a new integrated approach:

SAFENANO Knowledge Base: formerly our information service, the knowledge base focuses on interpreting and disseminating emerging scientific evidence about the potential risks to health and the environment arising from the use of nanotechnology.  In addition to our regularly updated news and events pages, the knowledge base now contains new feature articles, an updated resources section containing key links, recommended reading lists and a comprehensive nano-glossary, as well as dedicated new sections providing information on current guidance, regulation and standards. The SAFENANO News Bulletin will also be making a return very soon, in a brand new format!

SAFENANO Scientific Services: now offers a comprehensive introduction to our authoritative independent consultancy on risk and safety, covering our multidisciplinary expertise in hazard assessment, exposure, toxicology, occupational hygiene and risk assessment. In addition, the online offering includes a repository of useful downloads to assist those working with nanomaterials in understanding and considering options for controlling risks arising from their activities in the area.

SAFENANO Research: A new part of the SAFENANO offering, SAFENANO Research showcases some of the work which we have undertaken in the area since our launch in 2007. Our research encompasses the development, evaluation and dissemination of new knowledge about toxicology, exposure and risk as well as application of that emerging knowledge though targeted EHS workpackages in innovation led materials, process or application development projects.

Rob Aitken, Director of SAFENANO, said “Five years on from the original launch of the SAFENANO website, the landscape in relation to nanotechnology risk issues has changed beyond all recognition. An enormous body of work is underway addressing, hazard, exposure and risk through research programmes, government and regulatory activities, industrial projects and standardisation”.

“Amidst the information overload we are now experiencing as a result of this, the need for clear informed assessment of the issues and their consequences is greater than ever. Provision of this has been core to our mission since SAFENANO’s inception. We are delighted to be able to re-launch SAFENANO’s online offering to address this need.”

We hope that you like the new site, and that you find it useful – if you have any comments whilst we make the final tweaks and edits before the official launch, please send them to safenano@iom-world.org print
